E74 Xbox Fix – What is it and what to do about it?
Microsoft used to decride the e74 error as a general hardware error where you’ll see 1 red light and a multi language kill screen.
Firstly it’s worth noting that Microsoft have now acknowledged this error as a serious problem rather than as a “general hardware error” as they labelled it previously. As such they have extended the warranty period to three years, and may refund people who have paid them to repair other red ring problems. Yes! Even though you’ve had Microsoft repair your console it’s still highly at risk of e74 problems!
You’ll need to check your status with Microsoft via this link http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/default.aspx, but you may get a refund and your e74 xbox fix done under warranty.
If you’re out of warranty or are just plain fed up with Microsoft you can take on the e74 xbox fix (and any other red ring of death fix) yourself, with a few common household tools and a little care and patience.
This is how I got into fixing xbox’s – I’m no pro I have just fixed mine and friends who’ve run into similar problems, and don’t like the idea of taking the cover of their pride and joy.
It’s really easy though, and only takes about 2 hours for the full x-clamps replacement fix. Though other fix’s are quicker.
