“How Fix Xbox 360 ? Who Else Wants To Have Their Xbox Up & Running Within The Next 2 Hours?"
Dear Friend:
Welcome to Xbox 360 Red Light Fix Today,
My name is Richard Brown and Like you I love playing on my ebox 360, that is until the thing crashes or freezes. And it frustrates the hell out of me that Microsoft have created such a awesome one minute, useless next minute machine, and then rub salt into your wound by charging you $140 for doing what they should have done right in the first place!
Can’t even bring myself to think of the 6 - 8 weeks without my Xbox if I send it for repair!
Well I’m here to tell you; You have other options.
You can fix your Xbox yourself!
There is a ton of how fix xbox 360 information on the Internet, some real good, other downright DANGEROUS. Anyway I reviewed the GOOD below, so you can save your time, and get back gaming ASAP!
Update: Microsoft have extended all Xbox warranty period to 3 years from purchase. Opening and fixing your xbox yourself will void the warranty!
My story is that I was prepared for my xbox crashing
My mate Steve runs a games store, and does all my console repairs and mods, in exchange for much of my beer. He’d warned me that playing as much as I do “it’s only a matter of time, until your X-box gets the RROD” apparently something like 1/3rd of al xbox’s suffer this or similar problems. He was referring to the overheating problem Microsoft seemed to have built into every Xbox 360, and still haven’t fixed even with the new models!
How Fix Xbox 360 Note: Right from its first release the Xbox 360 has had heat related problems causing the RROD. 90% of all RROD can be traced to poor GPU & CPU contact to the heatsink and also poor joining between the 2 (thermal grease or thermal paste). The design flaw of the x-clamps that hold the CPU to the heatsink cause all this. Being made of soft metal the x-clamps bend under pressure and heat, and bend the motherboard with them. So breaking the contact with CPU & GPU and causing the RROD. |

So my plan was simply to play until I hit the dreaded three red rings of death (remembering to back up my games often!), and then let Steve repair my Xbox when it finally crashed. He’s got his repair time down to just over half an hour.
In theory a great plan!
In practice my Xbox crashed when Steve was away on holiday - Leaving me three choices

i chose to fix it myself. Steve had alway's told me that I could do all my own xbox repair work if I had to, and told me "he learnt himself from one of the many guides on the Internet".
So off I went to find a guide that would get me up and running within the day, and not cost me more than $40 (including parts). I also did not want to solder anything.
My conclusion is that there are quick fix's, requiring minimum tools and less taking the xbox apart, and a really professional if all else fails replace the x-clamps and thermal paste repair for the more confident amongst us.
There are even a couple of fixes that could be downright dangerous.
To cut a long story short I chose XBOX 360 Ring of Death Elite Repair Guide because of the free bonuses ( I needed new ripping software for backing up my newer games).
Though I have recently bought the "Value" guide above, as I read that it covers a progression of fixes, starting with the easiest not take the xbox apart ones
Well this guide is nowhere near as slick as my other guide, the author Chris Collins, rather than grabing his camcorder has chosen to put together other peoples videos, but add a pdf guide which improves the advice, and warns of possible mistakes. "I really liked the progression from easy to implement fixes not requiring even taking the cover off, through to modifications that require you to buy thermal paste and really strip the unit down".This guide certaily isn't for everyone, but if you want a low cost approach it's well worth checking out. It comes with a solid money back guarantee, so nothing to loose.
In fact all of the reviewed products offer the same 60 day no questions asked money back guarantee.
How Fix Xbox 360 Note: The more expansive fix's recomend removing the x-clamps and cleaning off the old thermal paste and replacing with new. This is the best solution, but requires buying thermal paste ($10-15) and a cleaning agent (can use nail polish remover) to clean off the old thermal paste. Chris suggests a fix that better supports the CPU and motherboard and works in most cases, this fix could get you up and running within the hour and at no extra cost. |
